BALASORE/BHUBANESWAR: A coal-laden goods train ran 1km on Saturday by leaving behind its guard van near Soro station, a few kilometres from the triple train accident site at Bahanaga in Balasore district.
The train driver later realized this, and the guard’s van was connected with the goods train.
The train which was coming from Dhamra departed Soro station at around 10am.
The guard van got detached after the train passed a few hundred metres from Soro station. By the time the loco pilot of the train realised the problem, it had covered around 1km.
The train was stopped immediately. It was reversed back for coupling of the guard van with the goods train. The train resumed its journey towards its destination after around 25 minutes, said the official sources.
Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, chief public relations officer (CPRO), South Eastern Railway, said the train rolled a few hundred metres after leaving the guard van. The issue was solved within half an hour, he added.
The incident happened at a place which is around 9km from the Bahanaga Bazar station. As many as 295 passengers were killed and more than 1000 others were injured in the triple-train accident on June 2 evening involving the superfast Coromandel Express ramming into a stationary goods train and two of its dismembered bogies hitting the two tail coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express.
A similar incident happened near Vani Vihar station in Bhubaneswar on July 15. Wagons of a goods train coming from Waltair decoupled near Vani Vihar railway station. Front portion of the train moved forward for some distance by leaving some wagons behind.
